The Pride Baja Wrangler 2 is a serious outdoor mobility scooter designed for users who want more speed, ground clearance, stability and rough-surface capability than a traditional mobility scooter can provide.
With a 450 lb weight capacity, dual motors, large pneumatic tires and front and rear Comfort-Trac Suspension, the Wrangler 2 is built for much more than shopping centres and smooth indoor floors.
In our opinion, this is one of the scooters we would look at for someone who plans to use their mobility scooter extensively outdoors and wants a machine that feels planted and substantial underneath them.
 
Our Thoughts on the Baja Wrangler 2
 
What stands out to us immediately is how different the Wrangler 2 is from a conventional scooter.
This is a large, powerful platform with 14.5-inch pneumatic tires, adjustable front and rear suspension and approximately 5.5 inches of ground clearance at the motor.
Pride also uses a steering dampening system designed to reduce uncontrolled handlebar movement when travelling over rougher terrain.
For longer outdoor trips, trails, grass, gravel and uneven surfaces, those features make much more sense than trying to push a small travel scooter beyond what it was designed to do.
 
Who We Think It Is Best For
 
We think the Baja Wrangler 2 is best suited to someone who expects outdoor mobility to be a major part of their daily life.
It makes sense for larger properties, neighbourhood driving, paved and unpaved pathways, outdoor events and users who regularly encounter uneven terrain.
It also has a 450 lb weight capacity, making it an option for users who need more capacity than most standard scooters provide.
That said, capacity alone does not determine fit. Seat dimensions, transfers, posture, legroom and driving ability all still need to be considered.
 
What We Like Most
 
The suspension, tires and drivetrain are the biggest strengths for us.
The Wrangler 2 uses dual motors and can reach speeds of up to approximately 18 km/h, which is considerably faster than a typical mobility scooter.
The large pneumatic tires and Comfort-Trac Suspension also provide a much more forgiving ride over rough surfaces than small solid tires.
We also like the steering dampening system. On a scooter designed to travel at higher speeds over imperfect terrain, reducing sudden or unwanted steering movement can make the scooter easier and less tiring to control.
 
Safety & Technology
 
The Wrangler 2 has several features we don't normally see on basic mobility scooters.
A rear backup sensor helps alert the driver when the scooter is getting close to an object while reversing.
It also includes a full LED lighting package with headlights, taillights, directional signals and hazard lights.
The digital console displays useful information including speed, trip distance, time and temperature, while a USB charging port lets you keep a phone or other device charged while travelling.
A hydraulic hand brake provides an additional braking option for the driver.
 
Range & Battery Options
 
The Baja Wrangler 2 can be configured with larger-capacity batteries depending on the desired driving range.
With 75Ah batteries, Pride rates the scooter for up to approximately 32.5 km of range at a 200 lb user weight.
With 100Ah batteries, rated range increases to approximately 42.5 km at 200 lb.
Range decreases as user weight increases, and actual performance will vary depending on hills, terrain, tire pressure, temperature, battery condition and driving habits.
For someone regularly travelling long distances, we would seriously consider the larger battery option.
 
Things We Would Consider Before Buying
 
The Wrangler 2 is a very large scooter.
Its turning radius is approximately 95 inches and its overall width is over 32 inches, so this is not something we would recommend primarily for tight apartments, small elevators or narrow indoor environments.
Transportation also needs to be planned carefully.
This is not a scooter we would consider conventionally portable. If you need to regularly transport it, we would look at an appropriate vehicle lift, carrier, trailer or accessible vehicle solution.
The pneumatic tires also provide excellent ride quality but require more maintenance than solid tires. Air pressure needs to be maintained and punctures are possible.
These aren't necessarily negatives — they are simply part of choosing a scooter designed primarily around outdoor performance.
 
Is the Pride Baja Wrangler 2 Worth It?
 
For someone who genuinely needs outdoor capability, we think the Baja Wrangler 2 is an impressive scooter.
Its combination of dual motors, 450 lb capacity, large pneumatic tires, full suspension, high ground clearance and higher driving speed puts it in a completely different category from a typical travel scooter.
We would not recommend buying this much scooter if most of your driving is indoors or on smooth shopping-centre floors.
But if your priority is outdoor mobility, rougher surfaces, longer trips and a stable, powerful platform, the Wrangler 2 is absolutely one we would recommend comparing.
